I would suggest, that the Nano is the only flash drive driven Ipod, and will never lock up, due to vibration. all others you face the risk of lockup and breakdown!
This was exactly my experience! Hard drive would always lock up and now doesn't work at all. Nano, Nano!
I have mine in a Ram Mount aqua box 3(small) for the Nano. Will keep it safe and is waterproof. You can mount it on the handle bars and operate it through the clear plastic touch screen. I have used one for 3 years and love it.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I didn't realize they made such a thing as the claw and velcro is a pretty easy fix as well...
Luc.who - I curious to know why you suggest a flash drive IPOD and not a hard drive.
The flash drives are memory devices where the hard drives have platters and heads...the platters and heads are more likely have problems with hard drive crashes...
+1 - I have the classic and thought "Oh Boy" 15k songs - Yeah right - Locked up 1/2 hour into the ride.
Went back to my Nano - Too cheap to pay for satellite radio service -
i bought a factory harley gps mount and combined it with the ram mount on te Touch. I also made a wiring harness that plugs into the bottom and wired it into the back of the radio so that the volume is fixed, better quality sound and you don't see anything plugged into the front of the radio.
I have a total of six dollars in my IPod setup on my 2010 Limited. I bought the 12 inch 3.5mm extension cable from Radio Shack for six dollars. Found a cell phone holder that my wife did not use; the kind that holds a cell phone sideways and has a magnetic flap that comes down over the front. Has 2 belt loops on the back. I zip tied it to my right side handle bar just so it butts up against the switch cover. If you put the Nano in it with the front of the Nano facing the handle bar, the cable will reach the Nano. My Nano is the 4th generation and fits perfectly in the cell phone case; just like it was made for it. The headphone port is just above the case sides, so the cable end fits in perfect! My wife said it looks nice on there, like it was made for it. The only drawback to it is you can't fool with the IPod unless you take it out of the case, not a smart thing to do while riding. I just let it roll, I have 1100 songs on there. Just my 2 cents for today. Ride safe everyone. Jr.
