Oh My Goodness....A Harley-Davidson official authorized Dealership making less than truthful statements? Gosh, that just never happens!!!
The last time I was in the dealership in Salem, Oregon, they had a little tag on EVERY bike that read: 54 MPG. Magically, every bike in this dealership got 54 miles to the gallon. Gotta be true, right? The little tag said so.
It is against federal law for a manufacturer of a motor vehicle to require all maintainence to be performed by a dealer. How many people do you know that take their new cars to JiffyLube etc.? My dealer only sees my scooter for warranty work, and tires and I do all my own services. Never had a probelm and it has been back for warranty work, they never asked for documentation either.
They CAN require it...but ONLY IF they do it for FREE.
If any dealer says you have to use HD service, tell them THANKS...I LIKE free service and watch them change thier tune.
What they showed him was a piece of scrap paper. Tell him to have them give him a copy of it BEFORE he brings his bike in...so he can check the validity with his attorney...They WON'T do it.
I guess being a fixed (,low) income old fart keeps me safe from these problems! I think my nice new '91 is out of warranty by now, and I don't see me getting a big enough raise to afford a new one
Kind of confused here, I own a 09 ultra and have never gotten any recall or safety notice from Harley for anything except the Tank Issue. If anyone has any other notices could they point me to a place to find these.
Don
The tank issue is the only thing that they have actually sent a letter out for. They did that because it was a safety recall. Everything else including the jiffy stand, ABS fix, fast idle fix and the infamous D407F front tire swap were quiet upgrades. In other words, you had to know about them and ask for them to be done. My experience was that you needed to give the service bulletin number to the service manager because they usually didn't know what I was talking about. They were not safety related but were very important none the less. Lawyers run vehicle companies.
This is a great site and it serves its members well. Several times I have been asked "Where are you getting this stuff". Evidently there are some service managers who don't have a computer at home yet. I know for a fact that a good many technicians are members here. MOCO management would never admit to using a site like this, but they damn sure read it and hate it. They view us as a loose bunch of activists who are constantly stirring up trouble for them. Ya, we do tend to question things a lot, especially when it is old time Harley Davidson BS and costs us money. Sunshine is a good thing!
The first person who started this thread sadi about a tire recall/safety issue. Again I ask what was the issue witht eh 2009 front tire. I own a 2009 and have not gotten anything from the company about this. I took care of the tank issue and the dealer never said anything about the tire as well. Any info or a link would be helpful.
Thanks Don
Talk about ESP I was just asking and when I posted yours showed up thanks. Don
Sorry, not gonna name name names but if your in the Windy City, you're about 150 miles away, from what I would call a small dealer that's not off of any major interstate. Sorry, that's all I'm gonna say.
Why do people protect dishonest dealers?
If he is ripping off your friend, call them out.
Help out others on the forum that might end up at the dishonest location.
Don't just drop BS hints and clues, name them and the manager.
