I bought a set of the canvas lowers before I ordered my HD color matched. Ran with them for a couple of weeks during the winter of '08 and they did a decent job. Nothing compared to the hard lowers for sure, but good enough job that I wouldn't NOT recommend them.
They look like total a$$ though. I mean...$35 canvas on a $20k+ bike...just isn't right, ya know? But...in a pinch they'll get the job done.
Mine are still sitting on a shelf out in the garage, and they'll probably get used next Fall if a freak cold snap comes in early (or if the moco isn't running black denim through the paint factory when I order my color matched). Otherwise I'd offer 'em to ya.
Good luck with your choice. Sounds like you're on the right track (IE, fugly sharknose club =).
I have a 2010 RG and with the 8" klock werks and lowers the wind behind is clean but I do get wind. I love this setup and even at 100 MPH no buffetting. I'm 6' 0" tall and sit a little slouched.
Had both and much better handling on the RG. I liked the looks of the SG better for a long time and bought one cause of that reason. I'll bet a good percentage of sg owners bought on looks too. I would never ever trade a RG for a SG after having the fixed fairing and more space between rider and fairing. I can't think of many that have gone from a RG to a SG but there is an awful lot that Have dumped the SG for the RG. If they come out with a RG ultra they won't be selling the current Ultra's in 2011.
The clearview GT Small works the best for me. I'm 5'10" with 30" inseam.
Once you get a Road Glide set up for you, you will not want to ride another bike.
Better lookin' than a batwing? You've got to be kiddin'? You must be high?
A two eyed basket lookin' shark nose? But hey beauty is in the eye of the beholder as "they" say..
The short windshield of the '10 model RG won't do it for you if you have sensitive ears. The best ear protection is with a Electroglide. The windshield is closer to you and taller, and both of those features help. It will also provide good protection for your rider.
If you want the RG AND ear protection, resign yourself to having a tall windshield. I have a clearview and they work well. I bought the height option based on their recommendation that you should be able to see 50 feet in front of you unobstructed by the windshield. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought a taller shield.
On the RG, the shield is so far out in front of you that you can't do much to get rid of the buffeting AND avoid looking through the shield.
Exactly the convo i was looking for. Really appreciate it everyone. I actually prefer the RGC for the handling aspect and like i said... best looking bike on the market . Looks like lowers and a different shield might be the answer for the longer trips. What about the canvas lowers? Worth a crap? Don't look as good but if they accomplish anything they are butt ton cheaper until i get some payments out of the way. First thing it will get on it prior to getting miles on it will to be to dump the stocker shocks and get a new exhaust system with a fueler.
I have the canvas lowers. Not as cool as the hard lowers like hog chops but they can be taken off, folded up and put in the saddle bag when the temp goes up. I would like hard lowers but I have that money spent on other more inportant things.

that's funny,
I say the same think about people that say they like batwings....
I sat on a SG at the dealer the other day and thought to myself... I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
If they didn't make the Road Glide, I NEVER would have bought a touring bike.

When I bought my RGC, I went into it thinking I wanted a Street Glide. I rode both a 2010 SG and 2010 RGC back to back. I didn't even make it out of the dealership's driveway on the SG before I knew it wasn't for me.
I'm about 5'10" and am running a Cee Bailey's 15" Euro and HD lowers and I have zero buffeting. I do get some wind just over my head and it's a little noisy but I usually ride with ear plugs anyways.
These threads crack me up. I really do believe they are started by Fugly owners for other Fugly owners to crow about their Fugly bikes. Just look at the bike in the reply before this one. That is the windshield you need to make the airflow acceptable coming over the fairing. The wind under the fairing is another matter altogether and it isn't as easily fixed. When all is supposedly set up right and you can comfortably ride it, it is downright FUGLY!
