From the first post of the thread starter: "I am talking stock shields here... Which one provides the best wind protection, SG or RG." He is asking which SHIELD offers the best protection. I said niether one was worth a **** for "in your face" wind. You can put wind deflectors on the bottom of your batwing but that is not the "stock" configuration if we are comparing apples to apples. The stock RGC has more buffeting than a stock SG but that is a different animal than wind in your face and across your ears which is what I believe he is concerned with. Now if we want talk about another aspect of"wind", that is riding in it, the SG pales in comparison to the RGC in stability.

I wanted a SG for looks when I started looking for a touring bike and I rode one. Didn't have a problem. I knew the short windscreen would do nothing for the wind blast but it looks cool. Since I'm 6'4 a few friends of mine told me the RG would suit me better. I hated the RG looks but loved the ride. Much smoother than the SG. I ended up buying a RG and installing a 12" HD contoured windshield. I get some wind blast still but it's alot less than the stock shorty windshield. Plus I don't want the grandpa super tall windshield look. I like bikes with a sporty kinda look to them.
Do not own or never have owned a roadie, but I have logged extensive miles on one. I also own a batwing Flhx and have put many miles on that as well. Between the two, one is much better and those that have ridden both know which is which. Thems the facts.
Those extensive miles....yeah, it can be kinda windy on the back seat.

Boys! Quit arguing so much over the looks. His question was about the wind. Whichever bike he decides to get will look awesome because I will be on the back! hehe

Whenever a thread title reads "RG vs. Batwing", the debate between the two will come up. For this thread, they're both customized EGs and RGs and therefore, don't offer as good wind protection as their originals. If you can afford either a SG or an RGC and are concerned about the wind, fork out some extra $$$ and upgrade the windshield.

Upgrading the shield isn't an issue. I tend to modify everything anyway. But as someone else said in a previous post... i still like to look kewl while riding in comfort, so the higher shields would just be for longer trips. The 30 minute ride to work and around town daily riding (and longer weekend rides) is going to be the shorty on either bike. I was curious about the wind beating you in the face with stock shortys on both bikes. That, i would assume, would speak to the use of the fairing. Both bikes are gorgeous machines in my eyes. For the first time in my life i am trying to make a smart decision instead of an impulse. If impulse were the case i would have already purchased one .
By the way... i like the banter and i promise i will get a pic of the lady on the bike! Still thanks for all the info guys. Exactly what i need!
Well, for what its worth, I have a pair of glasses that I could never wear on my SG because I was always having to push them back up on my nose even with a strap. Rode the RG yesterday wearing those same glasses and didn't hafta push them up once. I have the short Klock shield on both bikes. Real scientific I know, but it was something I noticed right away......"Hey these shades are stayin up where they belong."
