Anyone run their iPod, or other mp3 direct to there amp?
I decided, after talking to a local audio shop, to go with an ARC amp and speakers and just plug my iPod directly to the amp for tunes. He asked me if I was going to listen to cd's or my iPod most of the time, and I told him my iPod. So he said why even waste the money on a head unit, that I can just plug my iPod into the amp and save the money.
He showed me the wiring harness he sells that will do just that and I agreed, and bought the harness and ordered the amp and speakers. Has anyone gone this route? I understand it's mainly a FLHT decision, since the other fairing bikes have a head unit anyways, but now I can just use the glove box to fill the hole and no have to worry about a stereo.
He was very informative on my options, and is going to help me with the install. He even said, since I'm running a 4 speaker set-up in the fairing that I should remove the tweeters from the 5.25's and use the tweeters in the 4" speakers, and use some kind of limiter on the 4" to make the whole thing balance out. I have no idea what he's talking about, but he is the pro and I trusted him.
Any audiophiles know what the hell he's talking about? Just an FYI, I'm putting 4 speakers in the batwing; 2 in the normal holes and 2 where the speedo/tach would be.
I have used an IPOD directly to an amp before. It works very nicely. I only listen to my IPOD when on my bike and never use cds or the radio. If i didnt have a streetglide, I would do what I did to a budy's RK and use lower fairings with 6 1/2" speakers, an arc mini in the bag, hooked directly to an Ipod mounted with a riders claw on the bars. its a great setup, sounds awesome and it is sleek looking.
Cool, I'm pumped. Stopped by the place I ordered from and he said the amp and speakers will be in Wed. Also brought my extra inner fairing in and he showed me some ideas on how to mount up the 4" to the speedo/tach holes. Now I'm looking for ideas on speaker grills.
