Question How do you listen to your GPS instructions?

Hi all,

Thinking about a low cost GPS to use but unsure of how to listen to the instructions.

I have considered:

Finding a GPS with a line out to plug into the AUX jack on the 09 UC. Quesiton for this mode is-- can you listen to a CD and/or use the intercom/CB at the same time?;

FInding a GPS with line out and use an ear bud speaker run into my helmet in order to still use the HD headsets for all functions; or

Finding a GPS that will transmit over an unused FM band frequency, knowing I will not be able to listen to the CD but be able to use the intercom/CB?.

Sorry for basic questions but I'm a bit technologically challenged!

What are you using and how are you listening to GPS instructions?

Thank you for your time in reply!

I don't. I have an early TomTom Rider, which came with a bluetooth earpiece, but I have never used it or even tried to. I rely on reading the screen, or when my wife is on the back she keeps an eye on it. I mounted it on the right bar, only because that was the easiest place to put it, but she has a good view of it and we have an intercom, so I get my instructions that way!

I had the same issues and solved them using a mixing device.
Problem #1 is that anything plugged into the AUX jack requires selecting AUX mode to hear it. No radio or CD but CB and Intercom still work independently of that.
I had a satellite radio plugged in the the AUX and you cannot just split the line and plug two items in at once.
My solution was a device called Mix-it. I plug GPS and satellite into it. It boosts both signals and allows me to listen to satellite radio while having occasional audio prompts from the GPS. Radio pots down for the duration of the GPS audio then returns to normal volume. All this is mounted in my tour pak. Still have to select the AUX function but I have music and GPS plus CB and INT.Click here: Mix-It Products

GPS (Zumo 550) bluetooth to Scala Team Rider set. I get the GPS directions & have intercom with my wife. I don't have a radio, but if I did I could still hear the speakers independent of the Scala headset.

I've had GPS both with & without audio, & I'll guarantee audio is the way to go! Particularly audio that announces street names.

I have zumo 550 and use wire into my aux input. I listen to my music using an SD card in my zumo. When a turn comes, it makes a chirp (you can turn this function off) the music cuts out and she speaks her directions through stock radio speakers. I can hear her most of the time. If I am unsure, I just look down at the screen.

I've got my Zumo 550 plugged into the AUX port and have a memory card in it loaded-up with 100's of tunes. I can listen to the music and the music is interrupted as the directions are spoken...then back to tunes. I'm REALLY happy with this set-up.

I used to use it with the Scala when I had my radio-less Road King. I prefer the current set-up WAY BETTER.

Thanks for the ideas and comments guys.

We are still in the dark ages downunder regarding satellite radio, but using that and a GPS with the mixer that Jberg suggested would be the go if we had sat radio here.

My eyes are not good enough to read any screen that small, although I like the idea of having the missus keep an eye on it!

I use maps too hog-doc, but just as a backup!

Question for D2R:
Your ZUMO paired with the Scala Q2-- have you abandoned the use of the HK system to use this? If not, and yif you use the HD headsets, how do you fit everything in the helmet or otherwise?

Cheers All,
