Default Extended Warranty Cancellation Experience

Thought I would share my experience in trying to cancel the Extended Warranty Contract I purchased when buying my 09 Street Glide.

I purchased the bike in April of 2009 and bought the E/W for a total of $1904.00. I then started making mods shortly and after reading this site, I decided to cancel the warranty a month later.

The E/W contract states you have 60 days to cancel and receive 100% refund. 30 days to the day (May) I cancelled the plan, which I received in writing from the issuing dealer.

September rolls around and I had not received any documentation indicating the money had been applied to my loan. I called HD Finance and confirmed this. I contacted the dealer and they resent the cancellation to the Contract Company.

a couple months go by and I call the E/W company and they had not received the cancellation yet but said it can take up to 3 months.

SO I wait.

I called HD Financial today and was told they had not received any money. I called the E/W company today and check again. They the contract is cancelled and they issued a check to the Purchasing Dealer in the amount of $1028.00 (which is their part of the original $1904) on 9/7/09 and it shows it was cashed. I was told the dealer is supposed to pay $755.00 to make up the total of $1783.00

I explained that i paid $1904.00 and should be getting that amount back. I was told that since it wasn't cancelled until September, the 60 day, 100% cancellation period expired and I was only entitled to a prorated 95% portion minus a $25.00 fee.

I explained I had a Signed Cancellation Request form issued by the Dealer and signed by Both them and myself dated May of 09. and 30 days from the date of purchase.

I was told that I need to talk with the Dealer and HD credit.
I called HD Credit and was told they would look into it and get back to me.

I am not complaining, just posting my experience with the cancellation process in case anybody else is thinking of cancelling or buying the contract. seems the Dealer got paid pretty fat off of the transaction if they sold it to me for $1904.00 and the Service company only paid $1028.00 back to the dealer. There is apparently alot of room for negotiations in this things, whether or not the dealer will move is another issue. The end of this month will be 11 months that I have tried to receive the money from the cancellation. I will not get it, but it will be deducted from my loan amount.

Leohd,

I will definitely call them tomorrow after I get done Hunting Hogs. I have been trying to be patient, now I guess I need to be persistent. 11 months is a tab bit excessive. Plus trying to refund 95% minus the $25.00 is crazy.

I'll tell you my experience with canceling an ES Plan. I bought the 08 UC I have now in Dec. 09 it had 4400 miles and the warranty didn't run out until March 20th, 2010 As soon as I bought the bike, I thought about an ES plan. I called several Dealers in my State to get prices. All said 1644.00 for 5 yrs no wheel option. I was told I could buy anytime before the Factory warranty ran out. Christmas week I happened to be down picking up some things for the bike and the Guy that handles the warranty called me and said if I would go ahead and buy it, he would give me 150.00 off. I said write it up. He did and I signed without looking at the figures as we were talking about the benefit's of an ESP. I got home and Was about to put the papers away when I looked at the figures. He had jacked the price up to 1799.00 to take care of the 150.00 he offered to knock off. I thought WTF is this! They were closed then and also during Christmas. When they opened up I was waiting for him. He said, I get 1799.00 for those. I said, that's not what you told me at first. Anyway, I canceled it and when I got my refund, I was 115.00 short. He informed me I would not get my sales tax back. I ask him who get's that since the sale didn't go through, He said the State. I was pi$$ed, but it was my fault for not looking. Worked out good now I'm doing my own service and enjoying it. Thanks for everybody's help!!!

I just don't think they are worth it. $1900 or $1600 pays for alot of repairs after your 2 year runs out. If you buy those and they add it on your loan you're paying even more.

I agree. Plus if you add stuff like a tuner, change your exhuast, cams and stuff it pretty much voids a lot of the warranty, so not much point in having it.

If you wait & buy the warranty after you've bought the bike (but before the factory warranty runs out) you can get it on a separate 12 or 18 month loan at 0%.
