I've used it to charge my phone and power my gps. 10k miles doing this it hasn't failed yet. only problem is with the big plugs in it you can't turn to lock the steering. One day soon I'm going to hardwire a female panel mount jack on the inner fairing and cut my gps cord down short with the same size male jack to match. In other words..............
I bought a hardwire off ebay for $10, went to Walmart and and bought a cigarette lighter plug for $2. Cut the hardwire down to about 12 inches, soldered and shrink wrapped the two together. I just plug it in when I want to use my GPS. No extra wire and the plug does not hit the tank even at full lock. If you decide to do the same maker sure the plug has a built in fuse and make sure you use a 3 amp fuse. The one I got came with a 5 amp fuse and i replaced it with a 3 amp.
I bought a hardwired USB cable then wired it to the back of the cigarette lighter inside the fairing. Ran the USB plug out from inside the fairing.
Works great on my GPS.
I'm with alot of the guys here - don't bother with plugging the cable into the cig lighter and having it dangle. Take the outer fairing off and splice into the 12V at the cig lighter. You can purchase a hardwire cable from www.mountguys.com and the correct butt splices at Radio Shack. This entire job will take you 30 minutes max and make you happier in the long run with the clean look
