Not that it is specific to Rineharts, but my left muffler mount squeaks at an idle. I think it's the muffler mount anyway - that little rubber piece mounted under the frame surrounding the left bag. Drives me friggin nuts. I can't really tell if it's the pipe or the mount - I have wiggled the pipe and it seems to be mounted securely, but I can see the muffler slide back and forth in the rubber mount just a little bit. Anyone else have this issue? 2007 Ultra, stage one 96, Rinehart slipons with stock pipes, power commander. A contributor to this I think is the shake at idle - coming off a Wide Glide, I am used to idle shake, but never ridden a bagger so can't say what is normal. Do baggers use the TC "A" motor like the Dynas? They are rubber mounted so I am guessing that's a yes, which accounts for the shake.
Found a similar problem on my 09 EGC. The mount weld broke. Not done too well at the factory. HD was going to warranty until I welded it back together. Had to ride, needed fixed and couldn't wait on part order. No problems since.
Change the rubber mount, 4 dollars, cheapest part you will by from hd. I change mine every year. Alittle lithium grease will help for a while but just a temperary fix.
That's what everyone else is saying too - I also checked the pipe mounts on that side and they are tight. Thanks, hard to get away from the dealer and spend only 4$...
I know the feeling...Remove the saddlebag support and squeeze it in a vise to tighten up the rubber mount. Squeeze it from the top/bottom and the sides. Not so much that the muffler mount will not slide but enough to eliminate the noise. I replaced the rubber mounts but the noise will return at some point. Used to spray silicone on them to quiet the racket but that only lasted a couple hundred miles.
I had a squeak too after I installed my SE Touring mufflers with the chrome mount covers. It was the cover rubbing on the outside of the mount wan the bike was leaning on the stand. I ground out a bit of the hole at the top of the mount and the squeak went away!
pull your rubber mount off, don't waste your money buying a new one cause it will squeek too, and fold a piece of tin foil and reinsert your rubber mount with the tin foil on the bottom of the rubber mount. Be careful that the tin foil doesn't wad up when you slide the mount in and your squeek will disappear.
That's what I did about 3900 miles ago and no squeek yet.
