I installed the XM module on my 2010 FLHTK today. It was very simple and took only a few minutes. I used the ultra overlay as per the instructions. Does anyone know why there are so many extra connectors? Are there other things one can buy to add on once you have this overlay? There are 3 extra connectors on this thing!
There are two different harnesses for the Ultra/Limited. I got the cheaper one, just three ends, one for the radio, one for the xm module and one for the original connection to the radio. The other harness has more ends for additional modules, I'm not sure what they are but I assume one would be the GPS module and another possibly for the Harley amp.
As far as loudness, mine seems to be the same level as the other modes FM, AM and CD.

Yeah, I got to reading a bit after I posted this. Guess there is a GPS module and there was a bluetooth modules that they no longer make that used this overlay. I didn't know about the basic harness when I made the order or I would have saved a few bucks! $40 vs $72
I want to add XM to, but I'm afraid to ask...HOW MUCH??? I can't stop buying stuff!!
A seller on Ebay has a brand new one in stock for $399.99 which includes 3 months free service and free activation. Then you can buy the antenna mount and wire harness from your local dealer. The reason I suggest this route is I ordered some basic items (adjustable push rods, cam bearings and gaskets for a cam change) from Lake Shore Harley on April 2 and still have not received any of my order, I just got an email from them telling me it would be sometime in May before I would receive the items.

Are you sure these parts are not on National back order? I ordered all 3 parts for my XM from them on April 13 and they were at the door today. I usually have pretty good luck with them. I have never had to wait more than 2 weeks but have never ordered anything that was on back order from the MOCO.
What I did certainly isn't as clean as the module you are talking about but I bought an XM RoadyXT, mount & power supply for less than $100. I can take the radio in the car or house and listen to it when I'm not on the bike rather than pay for a seperate radio. The mount is on top of the master cyl., I ran the power supply under the fairing.
FYI.

I got an email last week (two weeks after my order) telling me the push rods were on back order and they would send the other items today, then today I get a email telling me they still do not have the remaining order and would send the parts soon. My first order with them butttttt ???????????

This is what i had on my 2004 and it worked fine for 6 years! But rather than a Roady I had the old SkyFi2. Just decided I wanted a cleaner install.
I mounted a Myfi (Delphi portable XM player) with a cell phone mount with velcro (clean!) set it to transmit to an FM (preset to channel 5), routed the power and antenae behind the bars (can't see-em unless your laying on the ground) and into the fairing. I brought the antenae up under and behind the windshield, and it sits between the two eyeglass cases (again you'd have to look for it). I can remove it and place it in my car or home which are wired (clean!) with thier own antennas and power docks.... I just couldn't see spending annother $540 plus tax, not to mention another account. I spent $16 on EBay for the antennae and power cord (new) since I already had the Myfi and account. You can buy all the XM stuff you need for less than $50 on EBay and the cell mount was like $15 @ HD. It also plays as loud as the CD and radio and with XM you get the digital read out of the artist and title. One of the best things I could've done for the music. My wife won't get on the back without it. I can provide pics and details if anyone wants em.

i'd love to see a picture of this set up on the bike
Click on these photos. One shows the Myfi on the mount, one shows the cell phone case on the mount with a blackberry in it. The antenna and power wires run under the bars and out of site. They run into the inside of the fairing. The antenna wire comes up on the inside of the windshield and the antennae itself sits between the two eyeglass cases. You have to look for the antenna to see it and that's only if your looking for it. I can detach the receiver and plunk it into my car dock or the house. One unit, one account. Also I set the XM reciever to transmit an FM signal and set the my radio on that channel voila, I have XM on my SG.
