Question Cigarette Lighter

Can anyone tell me if you can use the Lighter on the fairing for your GPS unit. The owners manual says not to use it for any accessories. But i dont know why since you can in your car.

I don't see where it would be a problem. Heck......the installation instructions for the Zumo 660 I just bought TELL you to hardwire the mount into the cig lighter wiring.

Can anyone tell me why, when I plug in my gps into the cig lighter it blows the fuse in the charger, every time??(2006 Ultra) The cig lighter will still work and even if I plug my cell phone charger in it doesn't work at all.
If I try to wire the gps directly or hard wire it does it have to have some kind of voltage reducer or do I just cut the end off of a cig lighter charger and connect it ?
Both chargers work if I plug them into the car's power port...Thanks
Mark

Reverse the connnectors on the back of the socket. Somehow they got switched.
Also a voltage reducer is already on most power plugs related to their intended accessory. The Cig socket is usually a higher amp.
Yes you will need a reducer if you hardwire your GPS.

Depending on the (for e.g.) GPS connector, it can interfere with the engine frame, when moving the handlebars to the far left.

Happend to me at one time of mental abscence and as a result the cigarette lighter mount got bend and was not working anymore.

So I bought an aftermarket 12V powerplug and installed it behind the rear engine cylinder next to the battery. Works without any problems.

I figured out also, that the HD cigaretty lighter has a slightly different design compared to the aftermarket 12V powerplug - if its bend, it can quite easily create a short connection in the electrics, resulting in the mentioned blown fuse.
