There is a button about 1/3 of the way down the back in the middle (left to right) on the back side of the backrest. If you push it in, you can adjust the pad up and down on the metal arm to raise and lower the pad. Don't know if it will adjust all the way down to meet a Street Glide seat but it does on the Ultra. If the pad is pushing down on the seat push the button and raise it one or two notches. Should be fine then.

Also, as a side note, the mechanism is designed to "colapse" forward to allow easier entry and exit for passengers but the seam on my seat is starting to separate from my daughter pushing too hard.

I have used the HD back rest for years on my last bike, works well and the ability to bend forward for the passenger to get on is great. That said, I saw recently a back rest that hooks to the rear behind the seat and moves to be for rider or passenger. I have searched this forum and can not find it. Someone posted about it a couple weeks ago. Any help finding it would be appreciated. I remember it was a bit pricey and not to attractive but would like to consider it before ordering another HD for this bike. Thanks and sorry for the hijack....

I like mine
if i had to be critical I'd say sometimes i like riding with out one, switch under seat is a little unsightly, rarely use the switch to adjust on the fly but its gottin rid of a cramp on long rides by adjusting,,had to add washers to angle back a little.was somewhat of a pain to install. in my opinion after over 3 yrs of using it,,humm i might have been just as well with the manuel one??

I thought the same thing until an 800 mile day, it was nice to adjust it forward and lean back on it to change the pressure points. For 3 or 400 mile rides, it always stays in the back most position. I won't leave home without it.

Default hacked mine in half

On day one cut the upright in half and took 2"inches out of it...thought it looked like a lolipop sticking up in the air..also changed the angle of the pad so I can actually use the adjustments, and it doesnt put me up on the tank... took the slop out of the adjustment and the fit of the upright...Love it, wont leave home without it. Maybe get some pics up here as to my modifications...

I agree its not the best engineered thing in the world, but I really like my adjustable backrest. On a long trip it is a huge difference compared to not having one.
