I have an '06 RKC and am curious why when I first start riding
the bike the shifting is very quiet but after about 15-20 minutes
of riding it's back to the lound clunky noise when I shift?
what happens is all the primary chain and fluid is cold and once heated the chain "stretches" and offers some slack, also the oil heats and becomes more fluid and allows the racket not ever a reason to worry. just harleys design
the primary chain gets tighter when it gets hot. that's why you adjust them when they're cold with 7/8" slop.

Maybe it's just me, but I like a little noise here/there. Gear noise, tranny noise, exhaust noise. That's when ya know you own a Harley! Part of the character.
not tryin to argue but i guess i am,... but all chains all metal, all things i have ever seen in this world expand under heat thats why to see slack in final drive chains after a drag race(been doin that for years) also if the chain is hot and has slack then tightining it while hot means it will put some serious stress on the bearins when it cools
