Default TIRES *Bias vs Radial* WHY?

I've read it both ways and still don't know why I should go one way or the other.

I've got my tire selection down to Dunlop E3's on the advice of a lot of forum members all over the WWW.

You ride Bias if you have spokes? Then you should ride Radial with cast mag style wheels?

Or the other way around? Or it don't matter?

I'm running stock mag style wheels on my 07 EG.

Dunlop site gives the bias numbers as MT9016 front and MU85B16 rear.

If thats right that's what I'll order.

MOCO doesn't recomend radials on the front of any touring bikes, you can get by with running them on the rear.

So are Metzler ME 880s tires, MT9016 front and MU85B16 rear, radial or bias? I searched but no joy. Thanks.

ME 880s are radials, at least mine are.

MU85B16 will be a bias - B for Bias in the tyre name.

The giveaway is the description eg my rear is a 200/60R16 79V R is for radial. V is the speed rating.

The old dunlop D407s were 180/65B16 81H - Bias. H speed rating.

Thanks. I also found the answer on the web: B=Belted. Looks like I got the correct tires.

The bias v radial debate is best resolved by looking at tyre maker's websites, to see what they recommend for your model. I prefer to let them tell me what they think, rather than me try to understand the black art of tyre design!

Having said that, I have used Avon Venoms for many years and have a 2007 rear-end in my 1990 Glide. I am currently using an MT or 130/90B16 front and MU or 150/80B16 rear. So Avon reckons bias tyres are best for my bike, which is good enough for me.
