Nice thought but the V-Rod motors don't have the torque necessary to move a heavy touring bike properly. That's one of the reasons why HD hasn't put the motors in touring bikes.

I had a V-Rod, plenty fast but I wouldn't go back to one after riding a SG for two years...

The Boys over on www.1130cc.com have turned V Rods into baggers but not the other way around. Go check out that site, there is a section on V Rod Baggers. I agree with the poster above, lucky to get 110 miles out of a 5 gal V Rod tank. 2012 HD will have the Rev motor in a bagger, just watch!

1130cc.com was my home for many years before I bought the SG. I learned a wealth of info there but when you get older, comfort is more important then speed. Once I bought the SG, the V sat unused for almost a year and a half.

Cant wait to see what Harley comes up with in the future! I havent had any cooling problems with my bike yet (knock on wood) but Im one of the few who would think it would be cool to see a water cooled Touring bike come out some day.

i can see a problem with the v-rod motor in a dresser. sure they've got 115 or so horsepower, but torque is just not there with them. i had a guy pass me on his v-rod last fall, i was doing about 2400 rpm's at hiway speed, he rode alongside me for a while, and i swear he had to be revving at 4,000 rpm's if not higher. harley is going to surprise us soon enough with a bigger version of the v-rod in the touring type chassis, it'd seem.

Good point with the torque.

The VRod has to rev above 6000 to make the same torque the SG currently makes at 2500 RPMs...

I guess they will be designing a whole new engine if they ever actually end up coming out with a Water Cooled Touring bike?

with a cam and tune u could bring up the torque and then getting the drive gearing right would be a challenge.

A lot of guys would bash the idea of having that engine in bagger. But personlly I can't wait for it. I ride a v-rod,streetglide and Fatboy and I think for my riding style it would be the best of both worlds for me go for it.
