Default Did you ever

This was new to me but on the way home from work on my Ultra I stopped by the liquor store to buy a bag of ice (No, really, just ice) and flipped open the tour pack lid to put the ice in and the lid just keeps on going. That's when I realized the cable broke off right at the little metal piece on the end that's in the tour pack. It bent my hinges and made it where it wouldn't shut right. I limped home and was able to straighten the hinges by taking the tour pack off but snapped the smallest torx screw head off one of the set pins.

I'll have to pay a visit to the dealer tomorrow for a new cable, set pin and screw (if that's even what its called) but no major damage. It was a disaster diverted luckily for me.

Take it from me and don't trust that stupid cable. Open the lid with caution every time because you never know when that cable will break. mine lasted almost 4 years and I built a false sense of security about it. What a surprise.

Just dropped over $1300 bucks on my new tour pak, and i will now have nightmares for weeks after reading that. I think i may double up the cable also.

My cable broke..over went the lid...but with no damage. I found someone on-line selling
a sturdier cable-replacment-hinge-type thingy. It was bit pricey, but I will not
flip my lid again.

Right, right. The 'ole stopped off for ice at the liquor store story. Wish I had a nickel for every one of those I've heard. Peddle that story somewhere else Bub

Yeah, I can see how that could happen, pretty small cable.

Ice at the liquor store, I gotta remember that one. Someone should write a book with little stories to like this to tell the cops or the wife whenever one is needed

Reminds me of John Belushi in the storm drain spinning off the lies to Princess Leia (I forget the chick's name) in The Blues Brothers!

Those would definately be in the book too

I had that happen to me too. Only I was still holding it with my left hand. I was pissed that Harley would put such a shitty little cable on these things. Like they are setting you up for failure. I made my own version of the cable.

Oh yes. I am VERY familiar with that scenario.

I now make it a point to suggest to folks with tourpacks to change out their cable if it is more than a couple of years old.

I believe E-Glide goodies has a folding brace that replaces the cable. It's on my list of wants.

I never buy anything but ice at the liquor store and I always sit in the car when my buds insist that I ride along to the strip clubs. If you don't believe me, just ask my buds. If you don't believe them, just ask my wife. If you don't believe her, maybe I am just lying.
