Ch1ef, where did you get the oil temp guage? I have tried several dealerships, all with the same answer that I can't get one to fit in my Ultra. A dipstik guage just dosen't make sense to me. I don't want to be looking down and to the side to see the temp. On the batwing would be perfect.

Joe Scout,

I'm guessing you never found that oil temp gauge to replace the OAT gauge? I will call the dealership tomorrow and find out what they were talking about. I might even ride in if the weather is nice enough.

Another note, I saw that Harley makes a compass to put in one of those holes. On my EG I have two blank spots...anyone have experience with these?

I would have to agree on getting rid of the airtemp gauge. It's not worth the space it's taking up. However, an oil temp gauge would be much better choice for sure and definetely more useful. This appears to be the general thought of those on other furums that I've read also.

If nothing else, put a big smiley face on the airtemp gauge so that at least you can get an attitude boost on those long days in the saddle.

At Christmas my wife bought me a traditional oil dipstick type oil temp guage. I have a chrome dipstick holder, and guess what, it doesn't fit. The guage is way too big. The numbers are right.

I really wish that HD would get their aftermarket suppliers to follow the specs on products they make. This isn't the first time that this has happened. At least it's not a internal part that I need in the middle of a rebuild.

The air temp guage is not accurate. You don't need it. When your boots sink into the asphalt it's hot. When you can't pull back the brake or clutch lever it's cold. Anything in between does'nt matter. Replace the air temp guage with a VDO clock (looks stock). Oil temp guages are like cylinder head guages. By the time you see there is a problem it is too late.

Have never paid any attention to the Air Gauge...KInda of think I know whether its hot or cold outside. Know I thing I'll put in a oil temp gauge cuz the dipstick model is hard to read at speed.

Since our new ULTRA is still at the dealer undergoing major remodeling- I have no idea where the Air Temp Gage is located. Can someone please tell me so I can advise them to make the switch to oil temp while the bike is apart. APrt number for the oil temp gage would be appreciated also!

THANKS,

BRUCE

Air temp gauge is on the left side of the fairing at about the 8 o'clock position from the speedometer.

I've found a nice Oil Temperature gauge to replace that crummy air gauge.
Call your local auto parts guy and ask for an Autometer #2639. 2-1/16" like stock.
It is electric, and comes with the required sensor. I'm making an adapter to fit the sensor into the sump drain plug.
