Stage 1 difference?
So, some guys swear the Stage 1 helps the bike run richer/cooler. Others say it doesn't do anything to the A/F mixture.
Which is it?
I have an '09 RG and would happily spend the $$ on a Stage 1 remap if I KNEW it would help with heat. If all the S1 does is extend the rev limit, then it's worthless to me.
BTW, I have slip-ons and a K&N and the bike runs great with no download (but it does get HOT). I'll probably try Xieds.

well i must say its a very good question but you have to keep in mind that they do come out of the factory already running rich so if you opened up the exhaust you should have done the same on the intake. Getting the PCV will allow you to dyno in your engine which will increase your horse power and fuel economy.
I started off by installing new Rush slip-ons with 2" baffles. They sounded nice but no increase in noticable performance. If you gained 2 or 3 horsepower it would be hard to notice that small of a change by using the old seat of the pants dyno. A couple of days later I installed the Screaming Eagle air cleaner assembly. After installantion I took it out on the road for a a test and it was very noticable. At 3000 rpm in second gear when you crank on full throttle it really pulls. Maybe 10-12 horsepower gain on that one. Next day I go to the Harley store and have them download the upgrade for $150.00. Nobody really knows for sure what it does cause the engineers are tightlipped as hell about that one. Anyway, no change was noted in performance. I have read that it ups your red line from 5100 rpms to 5500 or so. Again, nobody knows for damn sure. The last thing I installed a TFI fuel management box. Again, a big improvement in performance all the way through the gear range. You don't have to be cranking it on to notice the improvement, just going through the gears will be noticable. Plus, it runs cooler at low speed because it is adding a bit more fuel. Altogether with all improvements I think I might have gained maybe 15 horsepower at full throttle. Cost for all that was a little over $900.00 using my labor. So that figures out to a little over $63.00 for each of those potential ponies. It costs a bunch to add horsepower. Once again I have learned that riding a Harley is a damn expensive hobby. Well, maybe not a hobby but are damn expensive to ride.
I ran monster ovals for a while and didn't notice any difference in performance. Put the K&N air filter kit and fuelpak on with the monster ovals and had a noticable seat of the pants improvement, especially when riding two up.
I just installed Monster Ovals, PCV and Arlen Ness Big Sucker. Feels torquier, and while it doesn't knock me off the bike I feel that there is a noticeable improvement in pop. That's after a half hour around the neighbourhood with the new smoke pouring out of the ovals. Maybe I am just talking myself in to being happy, but I like the new tone and throttle.
I bought my bike with slipons and the SE AC. The bike had the stage 1 download done by the dealer. I want to either do the SERT or PCVIII. Will I have to have it reflashed back to stock or will the SERT of PCVIII piggyback on it? Im leaning toward PCVIII.
