I know this is a beaten thread, but I am finally ready to purchase a new windshield for my RG and I can not make a decision. Any input on brand, size, where to purchase, etc. is appreciated.
I am 5'7" and have a cut out seat so I sit fairly low in the saddle. If this helps at all....
short answer?? YES to all three.... and just as many "no's"
5'-7" sitting low in the saddle.... is part of the information.
I'm 5'8" with the HD reach seat, I run the Clearview +1 works great for me....
edited to add: I have 28 inch inseams, so I'm "long" in the torso. Total height might not reflect ho tall I am while on the bike
If you go with the CV... check out the "in stock" blems.... I've never found the blemih on mine, and they are shipped next day.
Otherwise, there are Road Glid forums on Yahoo, and Delphi, maybe you can pick up a used shield there..... maybe ebay?
* Stock POS "thumbnail" that comes on the '10 FLTRX
* HD Windsplitter (HORRIBLE wind deflection)
* 12" KW (just as bad as the HD version)
* 12" Windvest
It should be noted that I'm 6' with a 34" inseam, and I have a Mustang Super Solo that moves me back & down ~1.25". While the Windvest is, by far, the best of the bunch to date, I still get some buffeting. I'm hoping my hard lowers will help with that since I don't really want to go any taller on the shield (the 12" is already detracting from the aesthetics that caught my eye to begin with). Those should be in sometime in the next week or so.
I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that windshields and protection from the elements on RG's are a matter of either form, or function. They seem to be mutually exclusive.
had a Klock (too much wind) OEM (sucks! period!), Cee bailet( too much wind) Clearview +2...NIRVANA. I am 6'2" 32 inch inseam on a C&C solo...I wanted wind in my face, just no helmet or glasses movement...I also added Hogg Chopps Lower fairings and the HD fork baffle. All these were necessary to get what I was looking for. Also if you go with Clearview +1 on the blems. I got mine in 3 days and never could find anything wrong with it.
I'm 5'7" with a 30" inseam. I'm running a 12" gun smoke Windvest. Works much better than stock.
The only buffeting I get now at around 75+mph comes from underneath the fairing. I'm hoping some lowers would take care of that. But come summer, I'm not all that concerned. Most of my riding is 55-60 and that isn't a problem. Just blasting down the interstate at 75+ is annoying. Not a huge deal but it is there.
