Default Saddle Bag Latch Adjustment

Ok, got some stretched bags and put on my original lids with latches/hinges still attached. Bags were pre drilled and everything lines up correctly as far as I can tell. I also have a shop manual but was unable to find any type of procedure to adjust the latches. My current condition is such that the latch does not snap down into the closed position, I can somwhat massage it there but the lock will not engage. Anyone have a trick/procedure? Would appreciate the input. 09 Street Glide.

Thanks in advance

Tight like stock, these lids came off my stock 09 and latches worked just fine. Now they dont, and the cloth support flap is not in the way, first thing I checked.

I had the same issue. Make sure you have the (I dont know the correct word for them) small latch plates, the ones that stick on. They have to be on for the latches to work. Once I did that, the lids got easier and easier to lock. It seemed to me the gaskets had to form to the new bags. Hope that helps. I was pulling my hair out till I figured it out.

Here are a couple of things you can check.

1) make sure the lid retainer (wide strap that holds the lid when open) is not folding up and getting caught between the lid and bag when you close the lid.

2) It sounds like the locking plate on the latch may be trapped on the wrong side of the plate. Open the latch and watch what happens as you turn the key. Make sure it has full range of motion.

3) is it possible the pre-drilled holes are located too far done on the bag? can you check the measurements against the old bags?

Sorry, but this is all I can think of. I have messed around with the latches, but don't remember seeing any adjustments. Maybe one of the wrenches or techs on this site will be able to help more.

Could it be that the pre drilled holes are off little?

Get some calipers and mic the holes on the old bags and new ones.

I have Baddad, and it's a pain to get them as good as factory, if that's even possible. I had to use various spacers and washers to get them close.

Again the holes appear to be correct, did measure. So what is the stick on latch plate someone is talking about? Also someone used washers as spacers, could you explain where and why? Thanks again guys!
