Default Need Help...Fork oil change

Ok, need some quick help. I've just finished changing the fork oil on my 04 EGC. My question is, do put the filler caps back on with the bike on the ground or still up on the stand with the forks extended??

The last time I did it I think the front was still in the air. I'm at work right now, I'll check my manual in the morning.

That's what I was thinking too. I have the service manual but it is vague at best. It has the process being done with the forks off the bike completely which is why I was thinking recap them while in the air.

I believe that is what I did as well. You would then have equal amounts of air trapped in the assembly (if that even matters). With the full weight of the bike on the uncapped forks, the innards are going to poke out the top and you'll have a hell of a time replacing the caps.

If you can do it with the bike on the ground you're one tough S.O.B.

Only Dyna's and Sporty's have to be off the ground. Baggers and softails have a spring cap and a top cap, the spring cap retains the spring the top cap seals the hole the fluid goes in through.
