Default Derby Cover Screws

For those that have changed out the torx screws what did you use? Allen head cap, button heads? Stainless or chrome?
Thanks.

Took a torx up to Ace hardware to match the thread.
Bought allens in Stainless. Tossed the torx into the trash and never looked back.

On one bike i went to the local fastener supply house that stocked a large variety of stainless allens, matched up all the engine sizes, then polished them all out on a buffer. That's a job for a man with a lot of time on his hands. Next bike i got lazy and bought the polished FLT stainless eng/trans/primary kit off ebay for $75. Installed them all when i had the engine apart. That's the way to go. An engine with all polished bolts sure looks good.

If I were to change the Torx to anything else it would be chrome allen Button Head . I think the allen heads stick out too far and look like chit! JMO

1/4-20 x 5/8 (grade 8) is the derby cover screw size for when you match them up at the store.

I get stainless because they don't rust in the center like the rest of the crap chrome hardware on the bike.
If you go the allen route dont forget to get washers. The allens don't have much of a shoulder...

Here's a pic. Yeah...these look like total chit!

Ace Hardware. Chrome allens with chrome washers and never seize on threads.
