Hello everyone, I just finished my ape hanger install and after a few little issues, everything is complete and working well...except for one little issue. When I rotate the key **** counterclockwise to lock the bike my key won't turn to the lock position. Anyone ever encounter this issue before?
If you mean locking the forks, then try moving the front end around while you turn the key. With the bigger bars it could be your front end doesn't rest at the same place anymore.
When was the last time you locked the **** ? usually with a little spray lube it should work, unless your're like me and never lube the ignition switch/**** in 10 years, cost me a new one.
A buddy of mine has ther same problem and he's never taken anything in the front apart, ar replaced any parts up there. But he never locks his forks either. Dep might be on to something here.
I locked it last weekend...I use the lock often. It worked fine before I put my new bars on it this weekend. I'll lube it up and see if that works. It feels like something is hanging up in the key slot. The key will turn about 1/4, then stop. I'll mess with it...let's see what happens.
I forgot to add , that I took my ignition switch completely apart, and cleaned it and lubed it. It still would'nt work, I think that there maybe some pins or something inside that either gums up or just stops moving...I actually thought I had the wrong key in it.
A: Spray lube= $5
B: Turn the key once a week= free
C: Do none of the above = 2 weeks, $110 and 1 hour of my time....
If you can turn it some it may just need lubed,,, I hope this helps.
I don't think you have it aligned properly. I had mine out three times this weekend and sometimes I couldn't get the key to turn. I made the ignition tool (other threads show this but I just ground dn a pipe hanger bracket) lined up the inside tumblers to the lock fork position w the forks all the way left, key counter clockwise past the unlock position w the tab depressed then put the ingition switch in and turn the key to unlock position to hear a click. Try taking it out and redoing it.
