so i rode my 07 roadglide to work on sat nite. I went to leave sun mornin an it was DEAD. It has the original battery=which i 1st thought could be the prob.
I went to start it and all i heard was "click, click click"
i tried to start again and got a weird "grinding" nosie...
Grab a voltmeter, hook it up and check the static voltage. Turn the ign on and check the voltage, hit the starter and view the voltage while doing so. Static voltage should be around 12.5 volts or so. With the ignition on, around 11.8 to 12.2 volts and with the starter engaged, no less than 9.5 volts. With a suspect battery, the values will be less than those posted.
I would tighten the battery cables first, and then repalce the battery if that did not do the trick. The "A" motors vibrate a lot and the cables can come loose quite easily.
Check your battery, but if it is okay, I would look at the starter bolts. There is a tech bulletin out about the 2007 starter bolts not being torqued tight enough and the loose connection causing intermittent starter problems. On the touring bike you replace the exhaust mounting bracket to the -07A and use the higher torque value for the 2008.
