I will be going for 1000 mile service soon on 2010 ultra classic and was wondering if the synthetic oil is worth it.

As hot as an air cooled engine runs, I think so. Synthetic just handles heat much better.

Do a search on oil and you'll find more posts than you could look through in a lifetime. Oil is a religious topic basically and everyone has their own opinion. Read up on the things people say and use that to help you make your decision.

Yes, synthetic is worth it. But don't buy that crap that Harley sells, it's a synthetic blend. Get some Mobil 1, Amsoil or Redline.

You won't get a clear consensus on this subject. Most guys I know use synthetic, but I still know a few that prefer dino. Some guys that run dino say it helps quiet the top end clatter. Most folks that use synthetics feel it works better for heat reduction.

Worth it? Who knows....

Do not use synthetic oil in Harley Davidson motorcycles. It is a well known fact that it is too slippery. Your Harley Davidson engine requires internal friction to operate correctly and if it doesn't have enough internal friction, it could result in a catastrophic failure of your engine that will not be covered by warranty. Your warranty is automatically voided if any synthetic petroleum product is used in your motorcycle. Furthermore, use of synthetic lubricants and the resulting catastrophic failure of the engine could result in operator injury or death. In fact, just to be on the safe side and to increase the internal friction of my Harley engine, I have added a teaspoon of sand at each oil change.

+1 I have added a teaspoon of sand at each oil change.

I use metal shavings when I can afford them.

M1 20W-50 Synth for V-twins is one of the best recommended & it's usually on sale at Advance Auto & Wal Mart...
