A friend has a SG. wanted some bump in performance.
He found a good tuner (I used him too) that recommended
SuperTrapps because of the disc. With a A/C upgrade and
race tuner and some Dyno time the bike ran much much
better. No longer felt choked or sluggish. A great upgrade
if you want to stay stock. I couldn't, I had to go cams,
big bore, and upgraded heads.
That small increase in torque and horsepower really only comes into play in the upper third of the rpm band (4000 and above). Below 4000 rpm, it's probably more like 2 hp and 3 ft lbs.
But it's still well worth it for the cooler running motor. The fact it sounds so much better is a welcome side effect.
FXSTS-88,
Can I throw an idea your way?
If you pull the heads and jugs to do a big bore, spend an extra 700-1200 bones and get your STOCK heads ported by a professional. You will be very happy that you did that.

Doing a Stage 1 & tuner would only enhance the motor, not reduce its reliability!! Mine hasn't left me stranded yet...35000 mi.
I'm beginning to think I'm ready for a B/B Kit & cams!!
Yeah, was thinking of doing something with/to the heads as long as I had them off. What do you think of H-D's 'Kompressor' heads? The price seems right. Would 10.5:1 c/r require Compression releases?
Just personally, I wouldn't buy any SE heads. If you can stand having your engine apart for two to three weeks, get your stock heads ported by a pro. Porting your stock heads will out perform and be cheaper than buying any SE head.
If you decide to buy the SE heads, I'll buy your stock heads if the price is right.

I'm not looking for a super performer, just want something give me more torque anHP on the lower RPMs. was thinking that cams and a little more compression would do it for me.
I'll keep you in mind. It'll probably be a winter project...this year or next!
Want to do cams first.
Only have a limited budget for all of this!
Been buying parts when I find a good discount!
Call Fuel Moto for advice on your Stage I project. Check out their site for some good comparisons between stock and Stage 1. A good Stage 1 upgrade (mufflers, AC, and tuner) is your first step, and then if you want more you can research the best approach for the next step up.
