........ i'm thinkin' that line in yer sigtag answers your question.
... Harley's are good enuff, and pretty much 'right' ... outta the box. We 'mod' to make that sexy biotch 'right for us'
........ & i'm bettin' that you didn't refer to your whatever-it-was metric as '1 sexy biotch' either
...... and that's why we say ...Harley Davidson, if i have to explain, you prob'ly wouldn't understand anyway.

Says who? I've never had to add a single thing to any of my Harleys to make them more reliable.

If your unhappy, sell it and go back to a metric.

  1. I haven't had to do anything to my Harely to make it more reliable.
  2. I have spent money on customizing it because I enjoy doing that almost as much as riding it. That is part of the reason I bought a Harley.
  3. I had a Honda VTX 1800 prior to my streetglide and although it was much faster, I had to spend even more money getting it to where I wanted. Parts aren't any cheaper for the metrics. Often they are more expensive and custom parts are less available.

I dont remember ever changing grips or foot rests on my other bikes!

AND Before everyone jumps on this, I totally enjoy customizing the bike to what I want it to be...

Its just that harley could have included better quality stuff , but hey, thats the whole point ... they want us to spend more money!
Not to get into a pissing contest, and I love my HD too and love modifying it...but as to HD putting below standard parts??? I'm one of the ones that like the stock grips...yeah go figure.
If HD did change the grips, which ones? must be a ton of them to choose from, how's HD gonna please everyone??? Foot rests?? OK again of the touring bikes, again I like the stock stuff....crazy Huh?

What we all would like, including the metrics and beamers etc... is to walk into the dealership of choice, look though a catalog, pick out thee bike we want, select how we want it accessorized, what pipes, grips, handlebars, color, motor size, etc....and the dealer to say "OK, come back tomorrow and we'll have it ready"...that's what we want, but really? Ain't gonna happen..
SO we buys what we like and we change what we don't....but really, that's the fun part, expensive, but fun....

I'm pretty new to this forum but have had both metrics and Harley's customized them both. I customize everthing I own, bikes, boats, cars, RC boats, house, deck and garage...the list goes on and on. The fact is I like to make things mine and mine alone. I also like to tinker with chit. Nothing in this world is perfect out of the box not even me.

Isn't part of the beauty of owning a bike being able to hang with everyone else and compare notes? Why I like this, why i like what you did and what I would like to do? I don't think that is exclusive to Harley's but the choices are so much more interesting!

Personally, I LIKE the stock grips just fine. Only reason I change them is to match the foot controls I CHOOSE to put on the bike for cosmetic reasons.

And what's wrong with the footrests/floorboards? Sure, not the prettiest things out there, but they are no worse than anything I've seen on most metric bikes, and better than a lot of them I've seen.

Some people just wanna bitch.
