Default harley oem pipes rusting
Is it normal for the inside of your pipes to start to rust after only 4 months..I can see rust on my pipes by just looking down at them..Just wondering if this always happens or water somehow got trap from rain or something

Yes, I believe it is. Mine did it too. Condensation

Yea, that is pretty normal. My 2010 eg pipes rusted in a couple of months, too. I am going to do what I did on my SG. I just roughed the inside of the pipes a little with steel wool and painted it with hi-temp barbaque grill paint. Worked great.

There was another thread talking about this same subject and someone mentioned about using a cup brush on a drill to clean out the rust and then to paint with high temp black rustoleum. I performed this tonight and the results were awesome! I made cardboard templates to cover the rear of the bike- I also used masking tape around the outside of the pipes. It looks like new.

Mine came that way new and I also painted them with flat black heat paint the first day.

That sort of all crazy rusting that fast..Do all the aftermarkets do that too?

Its steel people... steel rusts.... this is not news. I guess HD could use stainless steel and raise the price on the bikes to reflect the cost increase. As the carbon coats the inside you will not notice the surface rust.
