Default Stage 1 explained

I have a 07 Street Glide and am looking at getting a stage 1 kit installed. I am not handy so the dealer will be doing all the work and want to keep the $$ low.
I like the stock sound of my pipes; I like listening to the radio more then the pipes. So I would like to keep the bike sound low. Any recommendation on decent slip-ons?
Also opening up the Air Filter, is the SE the way to go?

If I was to do the stage 1 in phases, could I open the Air Filter and not do the pipes for a while? A few months, does this hurt anything?

I would do the slip-ons first....and if y9u want to keep things quiet then go with the SE slip-ons.

The SE intake kit is ok...but HD stopped using K&N filters so I wouldn't even consider one anymore. The Arlen Ness Big Sucker is just as good and comes with a K&N. My favorite intake is a Doherty Power PACC.

And if you want to make all this work at its best then you will need a fuel manager. Call Jamie at Fuel Moto and make the whole process easy.

I just did a Stage 1 myself and went with Fuel Moto's Jackpot slip-on's with quiet baffles (http://www.jackpotmufflers.com/). The quiet baffles are listed under the "Accessories" link. If you don't want significantly louder than stock, these are definitely the way to go. The exhaust sound is deeper than stock and, IMO, very satisfying. I think you'll like it if you decide to take that route.

I have an 07 RG and like to listen to radio also. I went with a Fuel Moto Power Package. It came with Jackpot Mufflers, AC, and PCV. You can do the install yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Everyone always says do the exhaust first but Harley dyno test show very little improvement with SE exhaust. On the contrary thier dyno test one the A/C shows considerable improvment. I also like the sound of my stock exhaust (07 Wide Glide) so just did the intake and a Dobeck TFI and was shocked at the difference it made. Good Luck.

It is correct that changing JUST the exhaust will give you little to no performance, but if you're doing this on budget you can change just the pipes and not damage anything, but if you go with the high-flow air cleaner first, you also need to add the fuel management system at the same time or run the risk of running way too lean and burning your valves. I would get pipes first, and then add the fuel management system and high-flow air cleaner at the same time somewhere down the line. If you go with fuel moto's power package you can have all three at the same time at a relatively cheap price compared to buying piece-meal.

my 07 was hot stock with just slip ons it was unbearable.start with air intake and a tuner. fuelmoto will get u a complete stg1 for about 700$the dealer will charge over 1000 u dont have to handy the kit comes with pretty good instructions.

I understand your logic but theo OP said he was happy with the sound of his stock exhaust. If this is correct then why wast the $ for something not needed.

Default I started out with a set of Bub7 Stealths and no A/C change

Was really surprised at the very deep sound and noticeable power increase at the higher rpms. Had some issues with the pipes though that Bub was extremely good about fixing. In the meantime I tried on the V&H wide ovals and they are big breathers that require an A/C change. So I went for a PCV as well. So now I have a new set of Bubs sitting in case our laws force us to go EPA stamped pipes.

The most challenging part of a stage 1 install is removing the old slip ons. I got caught in traffic the other day, small town, truck wanted to park, 4 changes of lite. My 07 king stayed cool. In the past thighs would have gotten hot.
I went with Fuelmoto jackpots with a chrome air cleaner and a moto billet cover. Not only does the bike look great and sounds great, but it runs strong.
You can change the pipes out without touching air or EMS. If you change air intake you probably should install a fuel management system. Something else about Fuelmoto commander, they send you plugs for the O2 sensors. I have been glad to get rid of them.
