I believe that was 1999, could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure .....

Late 98 I believe. I think it was first introduced on the late 98 Fatboy.

Yep. This engine came out in 1999. The first engines were known as the ALPA or A engine. In 2000 the BETA or B engine was introduced. This engine is used in the Soft-Tail models and has a balancer to help eliminate vibration. The 1999 and some 2000 engines had defective cam bearing and there was limited factory recall.

I had an 95 that was 1340(80), bought an 98 and it was 1450(88), Harley web says it was released in 1999 but my 1998 FLHRCI had a twin cam in it
