When i did my stage 1 download my service MGRF asked me if i wanted to add that, same price and i did... kicked on 2 times now....1st time was weird...no problem...once you hit the throttle it goes away...
My '08 was manufactured in late '07. From what I gathered it needs to be programmed in. When I do the throttle "thing", the cruise light does turn red/green. However I never felt the cylinder shuts off despite sitting in traffic on hot days.
Quick question: As long as the cruise light turns green, the heat management system is on, correct? Or it is not quite hot enough @ idle for it to shut down the rear cylinder?
Correct. Green = on, but the head has to be close to 300 degrees for it to kick in. Maybe you are staying cooler than some with the 103 download and the IED's?
Automatically is good. As stated, engine temp must hit a certain temp for system to kick in. I've also had to blip my throttle to avoid killing the engine at take off.
I love this feature. On the days when I might as well walk to work for the time I spend with my feet down in traffice I notice less "leg"' heat. I read the manual and made sure mine was programmed in on my 09 RK

Thanks RoadHawg, that makes sense. Guess I took the 103 download and IED for granted, maybe they do help some, as far as temperature.
I can cruise in 6th gear around 2000 rpm on the highway without lugging the engine, and turning slow corners in 2nd gear is easier ever since I put on the 14IED, can't tell much difference after the 103 download, though. I installed the IED's 2 months after the download.
Not only does it have to be over 278 degrees before it kicks on but the engine also needs to be at 1200 rpms or lower as well before it comes on. Mine shuts down the rear cyl. all the time when I ride in the city...it took me a few times to remember to throttle the bike also so I get both cylinders firing before I leave the line...I stalled it a couple times at first bc I wasnt yet in the habit of doing this.

I was in stop and go traffic in PA in town and my rear cyl shut down and ran like crap and I assumed it would do the same and turn back on but no it remained off. Alittle help would be appreciated.
Interesting....I was trying to enable this feature yesterday. It didn't seem to work.
Now, I'm gonna ask a question I should know, but I don't. How do you determine when the bike was built? Now go easy on me, I just bought this bike 2 weeks ago, during a HD repo sale. This is my first Touring Class bike, and my first bike with EFI
