ok so i have a good selection to choose from. currently i am running vance & hines big radius pipes on both softtails and loud! so i guess i want the sound and performance but also want to hear my stereo without droning pipes . I dont want much do I ? so im asking about which to avoid more or less so I dont have the above problems Thanks guys im counting on your experiences.
I love the V&H monster ovals but from what I can tell once installed that's it. I have 4" Bassani's and as I wanted my bike to roar I started by removing the baffles. Music to my ears!!! Then to try to at least give the appearance of being legal I cut the baffles leaving little more than the ring which secures the baffle inside the pipes. Now it sound like what I think a Harley should sound like. JMO....
My opinion only here from what i've had and what my friends have had. I've based them on a 1-10 scale.
1. Monster Ovals (8) - Awesome look and good sound. Not annoying on the highway when others ride with you and have a great sound overall.
2. Rush (6) - I bought the 2" Rush mufflers and they did sound MUCH better than stock, they get a lot louder with true duals but I've had troubles with the baffles rattling after about 25k miles. Good sound, look ok but a little boring in my opinion
3. Basanni (5) - Nice brand, looks good but HOLY CRAP they are loud. Atleast my friends were. Maybe with a baffle these can be managed, but wow.
4. CFR (8) - Ok, here's where I'm biased. My friend has these and and just picked up some. There are no other pipes I've ever heard that are so deep and bad ***! With that, they are a bit loud when you get on it and after an engine is built you may really want to find a way to baffle them. When cruising they sound nice as long as you are and they look incredible.
5. Screamin Eagle (5) - Another friend had these (picked up M.O. in their stead) - not bad looking but really loud with the V&H Tru-Duals he had. I wouldn't ride behind or beside him - irritating crackle to them. Maybe with the stock headpipes they are ok, but not with Tru-Duals.
Lots of tuners like the Supertrapp Supermeg 2-1. Both sound and power can be adjusted. Fatshots duals are very similar but are slip ons so they're a bit less expensive.
If your looking for 2-1 my vote goes to Rush, as shown below on my ride. If you want to stick with your duals...I had pythons and SE's but settled on fullsac recored, for my 05. You pick the baffle and its nice and cheap.
