Default Bushtec Trailers

I'd like to make contact with any and all H-D riders who pull a Bushtec trailer. Are there any out there besides me??

I don't own one, but I have a buddy who does. Got questions? I'll ask and relay. But I'll tell ya, that Bushtec is one solid unit. No bounce. Followed the thing for 500 miles and it tracks true and NEVER left the ground.
If I needed a trailer it'd be a Bushtec or a UniGo.

Pulled one with a 1800 Goldwing for 17,000 miles over a two year period. Best trailer made with out a doubt. Trailer hitch design is superior. Never pulled one with a HD, can not imagine why it would be any different.

The only down side to Bushtec is having to properly inflate the air shocks after loading with goodies and prior to riding. I would highly suggest buying their miniature hand air pump for that cases of major load changes when on the road.

The folks at Bushtec are great to deal. Not a stock holder or owner!!! Just a great product.

I probably should have been more specific with my first post about Bushtec. Actually, I've owned one for 16 years and have pulled it behind my '88 Goldwing, my '90 Ultra, my '02 Goldwing and now I'll be pulling it behind my '06 UltraClassic. It is still the original color, matched to my '88 GW and I'm going to have it color-matched to my new Black Cherry/Black Pearl Ultra. I'd love to have a new one but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the one I have and John Preston is definitely not giving them away, anymore than he was in 1990. I continue to think it's unquestionably the finest motorcycle trailer on the market. I do have a question for you, however. On my '90 Ultra I used to notice a little sway from left to right until I loaded more weight in the front of the trailer. Do you notice anything such as this when pulling yours? Also, I've always wondered why more H-D riders don't buy a trailer for long hauls rather than spend hours trying to figure ways to load their bikes down in ever conceivable way possible?

My Dad has one and I just followed that thing for over 6000 miles on our ride from Maryland to Yellowstone, into Sturgis and back. It tracks great, but thows up way too many rocks. After the entire group got on him, he had some mud flaps put on by the Bushtec guys while we were in Sturgis. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, they are very thin rubber and bend at speeds as low as 25 mph. They look like crap and perform even worse. Besides the mud flaps it is a very nice trailer. He doesn't have any sway, but he did have the cooler added to the tounge, and he just keeps his rain gear and the map in there, nothing that needs to stay cold. Very nice trailer, but I just can't get over the idea of taking that much stuff on a trip. To me riding the Harley is roughing it, take only what you need and make do. Just my opinion.

I have one and absolutely love it !!!! It tows straight and smooth. Reference your "swaying" issue, that has to do with loading too much weight on the rear half of the trailer. If I'm not mistaken, any trailer should have approximately 60% of the weight on the front half. If it is loaded heavy to the back half, swaying will be the first side affect.

RIDE SAFE.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Hey, Kirk, do you ever take your wife or g/f with you?? They have a habit of taking all manners of things with them. Thus, trailer!!

Why don't more Harleys pull them?

It's a macho thing. They would rather have the look than the comfort. Someday they will learn. In the mean while we can have a good laugh at their expense.

Been pulling it with my 02 Ultra. Not a care in the world...unless you consider the fact that sometimes I forget it is back there.

FWIW, when I tested the various trailers it was the tracking and effects on the bike that I was most concerned with. I towed the Bushtec and dropped one wheel onto the shoulder.....couldn't even tell it from the lack of change to the handling of the bike. Now that's a suspension!
