After having the HD chrome trim on two bikes, I prefer no trim. After the trim is on for awhile and you decide to remove it for some reason, they mark or scratch the fairing and shield and you end having to keep it on.
I have the same problem, not quite the flush mount as the stock shield.. But boy is it a great shield....... I am thinking of going w/ the HD trim, and spraying it w/ black chrome...
Got a HD trim set professionally painted black w/ PPG off ebay for $135.00.. A bit much but wanted black... I will post pic's when I get it installed and you can tell me what you a'll think..
The Kuryakyn chrome windshield trim for the RG is cheaper than the H-D version. It is not simpler. I know someone who installed the Kuryakyn version and had no complaints. I used the H-D version on both my 2000 and 2008 RGs. The H-D version does have a RG insert. Some people like the RG insert. Others would rather save a little money. Take your choice.
It all sucks! I've had HD and Kury trim and neither fits well.....gaps at the top....gaps at the bottom....scratches on the fairing....tried different windshields....no luck with a nice clean look. I really hope that "if" they build a 2011 RG Ultra it will have a new and improved type of windshield trim on it.
It's the most frustrating piece of chrome that I've ever put on. I went with the HD and I won't take it off even when I pulled the front fairing off to install new bars. It is hard to get it to fit right.
