Default Problem being too damn short...

I am too short for the stock set up on my Limited. I THINK that the windshield is 13". Can someone confirm?

Also, I do NOT like the HD bats they offer that change the pull back by pointing the ends of the bars further back. My wrists don't bend that way.

Anybody had success with a particular handlebar to make the reach to the bars better AND comfortable? I need them to come back about 2 more inches. I was considering a higher set and just leaning them back towards me, but am wanting to know of a particular bar that some have had success with please.

Also, I need something to make the side stand more accessible. It is a bit too far away for me when it is fully extended. I know that there are accessories made for just this, but what is best?

Thanks, and I love the forum!

Randy

My stock windshield is 12". I had my seat lowered 2 inches and I installed a 4" smoked windshield. I keep the stock handlebars. Its perfect for me and I am just barely 5'8"
I can flat foot the bike and reach the kickstand easily.

you should really get to a rally, bike show or club and sit on as many bikes as you can. the more setups you take in... the easier it will be to make the next choices in changes.

it's HD tax time for you.

good luck.

I put 1 mid size shield on mine (9" if I remember correctly). Rotated my stock bars back a little. Dropped the rear shocks 1" with blocks.
Harley makes a jiffy stand thing that should make it easier to reach.
A "Reach Seat" (or one similar) may be the solution to the jiffy stand and bar issues.

yeah there's a good idea. Just feel free to jump on as many bikes as you like. It's also a very good way to meet people.

Default Still too short

Yea, I can see me jumping on someone elses bike only to find out it is some huge angry guy and me at 5'6". Probably wouldn't work out too good for me.

Unfortunately, I don't have time to get to a rally. I am leaving for the Grand Canyon in two weeks. I need to make it usable for me right away.

I will most likely be getting a 10 inch windshield to get a below my line of sight. Right now it is exactly in the way.

The bars are another matter. I will most likely be getting a different seat eventually, but not before the trip.

The bars are the biggest issue. I can try something, but with the prices they are asking, I don't really want to buy one and find it they suck.

seats, bars, etc is such a personal thing that its hard to give/get good info on them. but, i would not change your bars out until after you change your seat. if you do, you might find you have to change them again with the new seat.

I had all the same issues. I'm only an inch taller than you and have a 29 inch inseam. I didn't want to lower my FLHT because I would rather have the ground clearence in the turns. I got a reach seat and it solved all my problems. All of a sudden the stock bars were perfect. I could reach the side stand with no problem and I was looking through the windshield rather than through the top edge of it. I would rather look over the windshield so I got an 8 inch and it works great. My only issue with the reach seat was I found it to be not as comfortable as the stock seat on long rides. It was perfect for around town or commuting. I then went with a Corbin close seat and all is well. I still have the reach seat if you'd like to give it a try. It's for an 08 so I'm not sure it will fit your bike.
