Everyone is going to agree that tires are VERY important and must be in perfect condition. Having said that, here's an idea... You said your tires are still in good shape. There are a lot of very good Harley dealers along your route, why not put a few more thousand miles on your current tires as you head out and then get new ones when its time. That way, when you get home from your trip you will still be running on tires that have lots of life left in them.
If you are like most of us, you'l be stopping at dealers along the way just for the fun of it and it's pretty easy to get a sense of who will treat you right just by talking to the service guy.
Hey guys, nedd a little advice. going on a coast to coast trip next month. would like to get a new set of tires before i go. got 12,000 on my originals now and they are in pretty good shape, but think the 8,000 mile journey will be far to much for em. would like to order some from the web and have them put on here in sfla. checked into jake wilson, but maybe i don't understand the site.. but seems to me they are just selling used tires. any suggestions?

If you have any questions you can call Tim or Ernie direct and they will take care of you. You can always keep your old tires for emergency spares.
I agree with dbinbc, if you are going to pay a dealer anyway you can wait until they are ready to change. They should take care of you if you tell them you are on the road.
