Default Lets Talk Batwing Fairings & Windshields

I would like to start a discussion on the subject of batwing fairing windshields.

Not so much as who's the best or what you like. But, More so how they work and or should work.

I welcome input from anybody including manufactures.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have read many post on the subject of windshields and have tried a couple and they all do pretty much what there suppose to do which is deflect air.

I am currently using an 8" recurve longride and it does deflect air over my head very well.

However, it seems that the windshield creates a low pressure area behind the fairing and the air rushes up from underneath the fairing and hits you in the chin and glasses. Above 70 mph my glasses are all over the place.

I know many of us are asking to much and we are never going to achive that nervana that we want behind our windshields.

I am considering a set of Chrome Wind Deflectors p/n 58121-85B which I will have to notch to clear my lower fairings.

I'm courious to know what kind of testing the manufactures have done to see where the airflow is and isn't around the batwing fairing

So, let hear what you think or what you have done that did work or didn't work.

thanks all.

I don't think you will have to notch the deflectors. Some have them on Ultras with lowers and they fit. Do you have the fork air baffle installed as well?

Sounds like you need these wind deflectors that go on the sides of the batwing. I need them too.

I tried those as well, now they are sitting with my pile of other unused parts. They did nothing to the wind on my ride. Mine is all coming from under the fairing, over the tank. I may try the little center fork baffle. I am looking for some hard lowers to put on also.

the lower fork deflectors are a PITA to clean.. behind the blinkers are so close that you cant get a rag through....mine started to rust after 4 months, thought it was just a bad chrome job so I bought another set and they done the same so I took them off

Hmmm ... when I was riding the other day I was noticing the wind as I'm cruising about 80 mph and I simply tracked the wind with my hand to the sides of the batwing.

I wish your deflectors would fit my '99 FLHT. I'd buy them from you so they wouldn't take up room on your shelf.

The side air deflectors on the fairing seem to stop most of my glass rattling, had the fork deflectors and like previous post the chrome sucks, had mine powdercoated, but I don't ride with them during summer, way too hot. And I don't have fairing lowers.
