58mm is too big unless your planning on racing the engine at high rpms often. Its like putting a toilet bowl on the 103 engine. Another thing to keep in mind is what intake port size is he taking the heads too? Are you going to run high compression pistons? Keeping the stock intake port size on the head, the 58mm would be too big.
HPI does great work on stock 50mm TBW induction modules for much less then the cost of the 58mm. I had HPI do my 50mm to a 54mm for my Tman stage 2 touring heads for my 117". Took 2 weeks for them to work my TBW and send it back to me

If he's suggesting it there is probably a good reason. He knows what works with his stuff. If you don't want to spring for the new TB, talk to him and agree on what will be expected of the build after you modified his formula. That way there is no finger pointing to be done.

I have one on my 103" and the sizing theory that was used in choosing carbs has no usage in choosing TB's. If you trust Wolf to do your heads why do you not trust his recommendation on TB's?

If he set your heads up with 1.800" intake ports, the stock TB will never seal properly.

Initially, the S/E 58 was the only option. Now that HPI is working stock TB's & using whatever port size you actually need (1.67, 1.710, 1.800), there is a better alternative.

I been advised that the HPI 54 (modified stock) actually out flows the S/E58.....

Having said all that, if ya paid the guy to do your heads, you should probably listen to him regardinghow to make his stuff work.

He said the stock 50mm will work but the 58mm will give me a little more power.
