I've heard that the Radio Shack alarm works very well. There are occasions where I like having the pager though like while at a rally or in a major metropolitan area.

I live in a rural area so most of the time the RS siren would be great.

Thanks! I think I'm going to stop by my local Radio Shack today and give this a try for 6 bucks. If it works, I'll be returning the $150+ alarm package I already ordered and use the money elsewhere on the bike (long waiting list). Thanks again.

You're welcome.
Honestly, you can't go wrong with 6 bucks + the cost of 2 small butt connectors and 2 paper clips.
To me, the alarm is more a deterrent against theft than a way of alerting me if someone is f*cking with my bike.
The fob is much more important than the alarm.

I went to Radio Shack on my way back to work
from lunch and picked up the siren you described.
I will be out in the garage installing that bad boy
here in a bit, I will report back later for sure.

The RS Siren install was the quickest and easiest mod I have done on any of my bikes!

Honestly in my personal opinion if a siren blaring for the 15-30 seconds isnt going to stop a thief (thats about how long it would take for someone to cut the battery cable or rip off the side cover to pull the siren or even the "smart/battery backuped on) having a pager isn't going to stop them either as most times it would take you longer than that to even get to the bike and by then it's tossed into the van/truck/trailer and gone anyways....

Any siren is better than none...any more than that is just a feel good measure as they will be gone before you get there...

Anyways....a pro thief is going to pull the side cover and kill the siren (expensive or cheap) before they go to move it anyways...

This is my factual experience with alarm system.
My old bike had an alarm system that similar as the Smart siren II. One night at around 2 am, George Town, CO, my pager went off, I ran out of my room with my weapon. The bike was parked about 100 feet from my room, which was on the second level. I did not hear the alarm sound at all, except the pager, which was beeping, was placed next to me on the nightstand.
To make the story short, a truck was sped off with four males in the trunk. They probably had tried to pick the bike up on the truck.
Anyway, you get what you pay for. If I have the Radio shack siren, my bike was gone without my knowledge!
Just me!
Nick

fast and easy to install as described, I admit
it was only a few dollars but I do like the way it
works when I tried it out. For $6.00 can't go
wrong in my opinion.

I have the siren with the rechargable pager. So far the range has not been an issue.

I did the same although the wire coloring seems to be different on the 2010. Just remember red into power and black into signal. Works fine.

I can see how someone can rip it out if they know where to look for it although the saddlebag and side cover would need to be removed first. In any event, it's quite enough security for most places I tend to leave the bike right now.
