I did the same although the wire coloring seems to be different on the 2010. Just remember red into power and black into signal. Works fine.
I can see how someone can rip it out if they know where to look for it although the saddlebag and side cover would need to be removed first. In any event, it's quite enough security for most places I tend to leave the bike right now.

My plug as gra, lt green, and lt blue. The red goes into gray (wire #1), the black into green (wire #2). That's the way I did it on mine and it works fine.
