Default upper valve train noise

I changed the lifters push rockers rocker support plates. it is still very noisy I am afraid to take it apart because I get 54 miles per gallon with luggage and my passenger but eventually this winter I want to pull the heads I have about 10 thousands play in the rockers I'm thinking of shimming them first does anyone know where I can buy the shims thanks

I have a 08 also and the noise drives me nuts.I have done it all,Heads lifters cam plate, diff. cams, push rods, shimmed rockers and still nothing.I measured eveything.Like one person said before the fairing makes the sound louder.I ran a roadstar for about five years and never heard anything then i bought a hoppe fairing for it and swore the motor was gonna blow.

put gear driven cams in her, that will drown it out.

umm, this is an air cooled motor that has principles of more then 50 years old so "it makes noise" then add synthetic oil and it will be noisier. I cut open my filter at every oil change and find nothing! On my old '04 RK and now my '08 Ultra, when they go water cooled the noise will be gone so enjoy it while you can.

Took mine in for noise, turned out that the rocker arms, rocker arm supports, and the rocker boxes themselves were all loose. WTG Harley!

My typical top end chatter reduced sygnificantly as soon as I got enough miles to do my second oil change and switched to Mobil One. 2011 FLHRC 103

The "ticking" is the one and ONLY thing I hate about these HD's. Been riding Jap stuff for years, guess I was just used to boring and quiet. :-)

If liquid cooling will quiet them up......bring it!! Until then, I'll keep adjusting my throttle position to drownd out the noise. Cant wait til I get a speeding ticket, I'll say, "I had to increase my speed officer to quiet up the motor......LOL". Or I could down shift.......naaaaa!!
