Mobil 1 in a move to reduce cost actually uses some Group 3 oils. Amsoil, redline, royal purple and others use only Group 4 or true synthetic. So Mobil 1 is Group 4 and Group 3 mixture, but is still allowed to be called a synthetic...
I've seen it speculated (mainly on BITOG) that M1 15W-50 has Grp III in it, but to my knowledge no one's ever provided verifiable proof. I've never heard it about M1 V-Twin.
Go onto the amsoil website and review their information for 20-50 oil. Changing oil MORE FREQUENTLY than 15K is a TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY! That's what the OIL manufacturer - whose MAKING and SELLING the product is saying.
Harley TC's work hard and run hot, I think 15,000 miles is REALLY pushing it.
I use Amsoil and have had great luck. For an "unbiased" factual info on many of the motorcycle oils on the market check out the Motorcycle Oil Comparative testing white paper at http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g2156.pdf. This is a 3rd party certified testing using ASTM std tests.
you can go to amsoil for a comparison but you won't see Mobil1 V Twin listed there, you know why ? Amsoil had an independent testing listed on their web showing the various oils on the market and they beat everyone but Mobil1 V Twin , it was on there for awhile then it was taken down and when they put it back up Mobil1 V Twin was no longer on it
