As long as you are in the area, try Va Rt16 from Marion to Tazwell. Called the "Dragons Back". Signs prohibiting vehicles over 35ft. Rode it on a beautiful Saturday couple of weeks ago. Met maybe 5 cars and 4 bikes. No drama and a beautiful ride.
Did that one a month ago in the dark! A bit of a butt puckerer!
Needed to get to Hungry Mother St Park.
Lot's of animals at night, too.
It's one we plan to hit during the day, on a re-visit.
I like 421 better because you can see the scenery a bit better...I liked other roads better though...28 all the way to Wallhala SC then 11 to 178...SWeet....The rattler (181) and 80 up to the Parkway from Marion is nice too...

This is one of my favorites, and Ive ridden them all. We do this several times a year. Google hungry mother state park. Theyre all good in the mountains though!

Yep 28, the Moonshiner, is awesome. When you get into highlands, Dry Falls and Bridal veil falls (sse my sig pic) are both great stops!

Yup, Back of the Dragon is a great ride, IMO, better than the Tail or at least far more scenic. You can ride that at times and never see another bike. Only thing, loose gravel on many of the curves. While in Marion try Wolf's BBQ and stop by Hungry Mother Sate Park. In fact, when yah get to Tazewell, stay on VA16 + keep heading north. Great riding up above too.
