I frequently post this dyno chart of a TC96 + SE255 with Rinehart TD's. It's the best chart I've seen in terms of peak-HP and TQ, but I post it to show the beautiful (to me) flat torque curve without peaks or valleys, and I defy anyone to produce a chart for an otherwise stock Stage 1 TC96 with a flatter one. It would be even better and smoother in the low-end without the TD's, which hurt TQ in that area. Since this is such a popular cam there are lots of charts available, and most that I've seen show HP in the 82-84 area with TQ between 96-100. It is a torque cam and doesn't make huge peak-HP numbers, but how often are you above 4500 rpms?

You know the funny thing is I was hitting the rev limiter quite a bit this weekend. Power may roll off at 4500, but not that much. My rev limiter is set at 6500 RPM.

True statement, you are still making more HP & tq than stock above 4500.

Good point, and I get a bit defensive when someone says the cams "hit a wall" or "run out of breath" at 4500 rpms with these cams. This is not true, as it holds the TQ well and produces more peak-HP (@ ~5k RPM) than stock. It doesn't "hit the band," like with many cams, because with the 255's "the band" is everywhere in the RPM range.

I think that is why these cams work so damn well, they make power everywhere. They are by far the best investment you can make to the TC96 as far as power goes. If you aren't out drag racing these cams are it IMO. My butt dyno says I'm over a hundred ft pounds of torque, but I'll find out for sure later this summer. I'm putting in the black ops lifters before I do a dyno tune. For now Fuel Moto's map is working real well.

Decided to do a 103 big bore kit. I have a set of 255s that are 500 mile take-offs. They look almost new.

Anyone want them? $150 plus shipping (what I paid).

I can send pics if you want. Just PM me.

Steve, why wouldn't you put those cams in with the 103 upgrade? pretty simple, you'll already have the heads off so no pushrods to buy. Bet you'll be happy as the 103 alone isn't gonna give you nearly the pop that cams will IMO. Unless of course you are putting some other cams in with the 103 kit.

Every single time I ride, every time through the gears, with my 6-6's w/+4*. I run it up into the 5's constantly, just pulls so hard from 3k to the high 5's so damn quick!
Of course I live in the woods so 90% of my riding is on well maintained bakroads with little or no other traffic around so I have the opportunity to ride like this constantly. I know most others don't have these riding conditions. Of course our weather is trade off, still raining here with no sun in sight. Sun is just a myth to us at this point!

Everyone really happy with the 255's and I know iclick really loves em. I was gonna use em but really ride more up top than most others. My milage always sucks, LOL

Good job FX4, yer really gonna love it when you get a good tune on it!

Got my SE255's in last Sat. and must say is the best investment I have made on the bike. Pulls hard, exhaust is deeper and almost too loud while on throttle. Only down side I see is the enginge clatter. Was wondering if that is normal, so reading the above comments makes me feel better. Haven't checked the gas mileage as I'm riding it to hard to worry about it. Went with the Accel SLM and have no problem with it at all. Works like a champ and I don't have to mess with it or Dyno it.

Your points are very good and totally legitimate. In every post I make where I describe the 255's I try to emphasize that they are not high-RPM cams that will increase peak-HP radically. If you ride above 3k RPM most of the time and want the power at the top, the 255's are not the best cams for you. They also are not drag-racing cams, as in this type of racing you are at peak-HP or near it throughout the run.

I think those 6-6's are great for your purposes. The 4°-advance gear is something I would do if I installed these cams to move the torque curve a bit to the left, and this setup was on my short list. What turned me away was that I felt the low-end would still suffer somewhat with stock compression and the cost was too high. I think they would be very good with the 103 flat-top pistons (10:1), if that's what you have. I would like to see a dyno chart of this setup. The cams and gear was $525 from Wood, about $50 less if you buy the gear from Andrews, IIRC. What makes the 255's even more appealing is that good used ones as well as new can be found on Ebay regularly for around $150 or sometimes less.
