Default Controlled lay down with the EGC

Me and the wife was meeting up with some friends in central KY over memorial weekend. I passed the driveway to the house where we were staying at. Went to the end of the road to turn around as we seen one of the other guys coming to lead us in. As I approached him at the intersection, the front tire dropped off the edge of the road (no shoulder) and the bike started to lean right. Wife on back, tent & sleeping bag on the luggage rack, air mattress & misc. items in the tour pak, right bag filled with rain gear, chaps, gloves. Once my foot hit ground, I slowly lowered the bike down. Neither the wife or I were hurt but gouged up the right saddle bag lid pretty good. Was pissed to begin with, but by Saturday I was feeling better and glad that no one got hurt and damage is cosmetic.

I hate it when that happens.

Sorry about the saddle bag lid but happy for you that it was not worse.

My wife and I had a similar experience waiting in line for a ferry at Dover in England. Just lost my footing, couldn't keep things up, wife taking her gloves off or something, so she wasn't sitting still, slowly but inevitably toppled over, you get the picture! Fortunately just came to rest on the crashbars, but in full view of a lot of people. We were heading for Poland and got back home without further incident.

Chin up!

I came very close to laying my Ultra on it's side the other week in North Myrtle Beach. My brother and I (separate bikes) were pulling out of an establishment and in line at a traffic light. I had to stop partially into the lane which meant that I wasn't on level ground. When I went to put my feet down I saw that the dip between the driveway and the road was directly under my right foot and covered with small debris, sand and gravel. The bike started over to the right and I'm just lucky I got enough footing with my right toe to keep it from falling over. Another close one.

Controlled?? laydown - I guess that sounds better than "crash" or "fall down" "dump" or "oops!" If it was controlled you would have stayed on the road and kept the bike on two wheels.

I went down at Rolling Thunder last weekend. I was riding over to meet a friend and a cop insisted I couldn't go the direction I was headed (I could), he insisted I stop. On wet grass I hit the rear brake and the bike went out from under me. Bent crash bar and bent saddle bag brackets, cracked windshield and a small dent in the front fender. Man I couldn't believe how fast it happened.
