Im working up here in Canada right now and I can tell you that I "feel" that people look out for me more than they do down south.
That is they look out for motorcycles.
I would think that if the add campaign were of that nature I would support it.
It isnt the biker that needs to be more aware. We are aware we are a target in most cases.

Here in California, we've had the "Share the Road, Watch out for motorcycles" up on the highway signs. This was during the spring time when not too many bikes are on the road. Now that more bikes are on the road, I personally have not seen these signs. On certain cable networks (Spike and another) I have seen the commercial about looking twice for motorcycles.

My opinion is that until cagers learn to look for us, we have that danger. This has always been a problem and I see no real solution for it until 'Big Brother' steps in and starts placing steep ($$$$$$$) fines or jail time for those who drive recklessly (not just towards bikes, you've seen the ones I'm talking about) it will continue. In the mean time, we all need to have an "invisiable" state of mind.

As far as 'educating' the rider, you can only teach the teachable. Some will pay dearly but I/we can't save them all. We can 'save' the one's we care for (family, friends, fellow employees, etc.) and a very good place to start. Just a fact of life.

I have seen a few signs but nothing on the tube. Our new cell phone law here has not changed peoples habits one bit either.

In May,when driving to south FL on 95 and back, they had "Watch out for motorcycles...." on the traffic signs that usually display traffic conditions. First ever I've seen.

When I lived in Cali and going to high school in the mid 80's, we each had to pass the divers ed class to graduate. The one thing I still recall from that class 23 yrs later, they showed a picture of a telephone pole asking the class.. "What do you see?". Alot of people said " Don't see nothing..." Well the teacher pointed out, it was a guy on a motorcycle coming down the road, but you could barely see him. I tell you, that stuck in my head and still does!

Ride safe and have fun.

I really don't think it will help.
The joke in NC goes - "Why should I use my turn signals? It's nobodys business where I am going."
And that seems to be the attitude for many. I passed a guy the other day on the highway - on the phone, looking at a piece of paper, and WRITING on another piece of paper all in the LEFT lane. No PSA, no billboard is going to modify that behavior.

Personally I would like to see some of the radio and TV add sponsored by Motorcycle insurance companies take the high road here and begin the campaign. They are already spending advertising dollars. Shifting some of the adds to focus on Motorcycle safety awareness would provide both a public service side as well as to lower the potential claims that they would have to pay out (biker or cager).

Texas is also adding Motorcycle awareness education to obtaining a texas drivers licence. We also have Share the Road signs posted.

Why wouldn't ya run the adds on the internet, more so than the other places? After all, that's what everyone is looking at, EVEN when they are "driving"?
