DOH! Now I am starting to catch on, acronyms kill me. I definitely didnt pay for or have the SERT installed. I would remember that conversation and a $460 price tag. All I have is the generic remap and air cleaner to accommodate the pipes. Finally found the part on page 21 of the screaming eagle catalog. Looks like some sort of tuner is the next logical step, correct?
Yes you can buy a SE Racetuner or Power Commander V. If you plan on doing any additional mod to your engine you might want to consider the PC-V with autotune. This way you won't have to pay for a dyno tune everytime you do a engine upgrade.
Sounds like you have a basic stage I download from HD. The download is a safe alternantive to a fuel management system (SER, PC etc.) As long as you only change pipes and air cleaners you "SHOULD" be o.k. If you get into cams, big bores etc. you'll want to go with some sort of fuel management. If you make any changes and you notice decel popping or it seems like the bike is running hot, you might want to have it put on a dyno for an air fuel check to make sure ou're not running to lean.
The heat is a "nature of the beast" for your year bike. I did V & H Tru-Duals, SE air cleaner and the SERT and did the dyno thing. It did cool things off some. If you are still using the stock header pipe, I would call these folks at the link below and get the "XIED". I used them for the first 1000 miles on my 08 and was very pleased. Not sure it runs any better now with the changes I made. (The XIEDs came off when the SERT went on) It is cooler to ride because of the Tru-Duals and I am sure the dyno tune richened up the fuel mix so that helps cool things down as well.
The XIED plugs right in and fools your ECM to richen up the fuel mix, which will cool things down and improve performance. And they are inexpensive too! Check them out..............
A buddy of mine is going to get some pipes installed on his new SG tomorrow and the dude at the shop also recommends a dyno and TTS. He already has the SE air cleaner and remap.
I am thick headed and still dont understand this, if the TTS adjusts the air/fuel mixture what is the purpose of a dyno on a stock engine? Will it fine tune it that much more?
If I can find good reason to justify it I may throw a tuner on mine while we are there too.
Still using the stock header, at the time all I could afford was some Cycle Shack slip-ons.
