Will dyno tuning a bike that has had a high flow air cleaner, crappy old slip ons, and the generic remap at the dealer do any good? Does this only have an effect on performance if other parts such as a tuner or cams are installed?
Sorry if its a dumb question, I kind of get lost in these types of threads and am no mechanic! And the stickied thread is 61 pages long!
So I should probably talk to you guys before spending dough on a dyno? I am trying not to be lazy here guys but it would take me days to read all the dyno and tuning threads. I am also trying to wrap my head around all this info. None of it ever occurred to me until I started hanging out here. I am more interested in the best possible tune for what I have, not really a hot rod, cant afford a hot rod right now.
I would talk to Jamie at FuelMoto and talk about getting a PC-V and he will program it for your bike's setup..That alone will make a difference without breaking the bank. Good Luck.
I agree that you should talk to Fuel Moto. Before doing anything you'll need a tuner, regardless of whether or not you perform a dyno-tune. A PCV with a proper map for your bike costs <$300.

Send a PM to BigDaddyMike. He had his basically stock bike (a/c and mufflers changed) dyno tuned and was very pleased with the increased performance overall, not just WOT.
If the bike has received a download, you should already have a SERT for the dyno tune.
WOT ='s wide open throttle. A dyno tune effects alot more than just performance, it tunes in all the ranges from idle to wide open throttle. It will effect things like fuel economy as well as heat issues, decel popping spark knock and a ton of other things. If your bike already has a tuner, there is no need to purchase another one, if it doesn't have one, then you might want to consult with a shop in your area that you are comfortable having tune your bike and see what tuner they recommend and are cofortable tuning with.
I thought the "remap" was just a download to original equipment. If a SERT is hardware (which it sounds like it is judging from the small amount of info I have found at this point) I didnt get one. All I had them do was remap it and got a SE air cleaner so I could swap the pipes out.
It is definitely not on the bill and I dont see any extras under the seat. I am sure this would have cost me considerably more as well.
Perhaps I should call the Fuel Moto guys and ask some questions too...
