Glad you got it going, I was just going to suggest the fuel tank disconnect. I removed my tank once and forgot to reconnect it. I cranked the bike over and it did not start. Took me a couple minutes to realize I didnt reconnect it.
You know I wish I had read your thread earlier I may have suggested it. Had a buddy screw with my bike at the hotel on a long ride one time all he did was just pull the collar on the quick disconnect and man she won't run. He watched me for a bit and looked real concerned of course and then said I can fix it watch. I then slugged the little SOB we laughed like hell and rode off.
I also noticed when installing my cams recently that the connection had gotten dirty you could feel some grime in the quick disconnect. So I exercised it with some cleaner then a little shot of silicone and she came back to the smooth life.
It will be a part of my maintenance from here on out.
Sorry, I didn't get to read your post until today. I had the same thing happen to me back in April. I went ahead and changed out the quick connect after talking to HD mech. He indicated that this happens alot more than you would think and once it happens once it will happen again.
Thanks Bigdog, I am gonna run with it like it is right now. I can assure you that if I have to reset it again, it will get replaced. I already have part numbers for all that stuff and may end up ordering it and replacing it all anyways when I get home next week.
another here that i should have metioned the quick disconnect...ooops... my bike would do something similar to yours .it would be fine for a while then whammo after sitting at a red light and getting ready to pull away it crapped out on me, farted around with the disconnect by chance and it started .glad you found the problem. i also had a problem with the gas cap not venting and allowing a vaccum to build up and the pump couldnt supply enough psi and would sputter and die just a friendly fyi...anywho cool to see you are back on the road..
i have an 07 street glide and heres what happen. i rode 50 miles to work turned bike off went to start it about 30 mins later and cranks fine but no start.things i have checked noticed that wires for rear lights shorted out and blew fuse replaced same problem.checked plugs and wires fine.fuel pump runs.final outcome spray with a little starting fluid and it starts right up. so after reading this thread i want to check this quick disconnect and check valve but dont know where they are or what to do.
On the left side of you fuel tank, underneath, is the quick connect. The metal collar needs to be pushed up while pulling down on the fuel line. That's it. Reverse to install.
It worked for me on several occasions with the no start condition.
I really need to replace it - just have too much going on these days.
