Dont base your decision on these books, I have found that the high price they show does not hold up in the market place, The fact is, these prices are based on what harleys had been bringing, but harley has got the market saturated now and there is no waiting in line, or paying over msrp. this makes our used models go back in line with all things used, Ive found if you take the low price listed on nada or kelly you are being more realistic in what you might can get, a trade in sometimes is a better deal being you save the sales tax on the trade amount. A 10,000.00 sale turns into 10,600.00 if traded in my county in ga.

Maybe I'm missing something here?
How do you save money on the trade amount? If you buy a $25,000 bike and the dealer gives you $5000 for your trade in,you would still have to pay sales tax on the $25K right?
The $5K would just go towards the purchace price.
If I trade my bike in and they give me 15,000, I'll only have to pay the tax on the difference from the 15k to the full price of new bike.
In this example, the tax on the 15K in NY is $1,256.50

Yep thats 16,256.50 you get by trading in, and thats real money. where as if he had sold it to a friend for 16,000.00 he would still have been 256.50 better off to have traded it in for 15,000.00.
On top of that, I could remove most of my "goodies" and probably Ebay them for close to a $1,000. That would take me to a 17K return.
As of right now....If I were to make my decision and purchase the Ultra, I would walk in with 2K, and throw the other grand in the note. That would actually take my current payment down about 30.00 a month, but extend my term by 12 months.
It's really come down to wanting a fairing and touring pak or not.

Trade-In Value (Good Condition) $11050
So much for that EXCELLENT resale value!
Well considering anything you trade in you are going to get raped on, what would you expect? I don't know a vehicle out there (other than a real limited edition or special model) that doesn't drop if you try to trade it in. You really think a metric bike would be much better if you tried to trade it in?

That value is normal for the way it should be, its 3 model years old, thats around 10% depre. per year. But the harleys cost so much, that the saving grace is a lot of people can't swing a new one so they will pay more for a good used one, but then the dealer still gets most of the sales because they can get a birddog financed. The problem is we all got use to the dealer over charging us by several thousand over msrp, that made the used bikes worth more, now when things drop back to not normal,( ever pay msrp for a car or truck in the past 20 years?) but bikes at msrp, then the used ones have to drop too, supply and demand pure and simple.

I dont expect anything! I was just posting a resale value from KBB. Thats it. NO, I never said that a metric was much better. Where did you get that??? But, I will say that if he paided just a little over MSRP, with a few dealer upgrades, and maybe an extended warrenty, HE is probably a little of $20,000 after all is said and done, and if he has only had it , says 2 years, I WOULD say that $11,050 is a very SAD figure for a trade-in value....almost $10,000 in 2 years. Granted, it is trade-in, not retail. But most I have read latelty is guys are "Tradeing IN" for new 07's.
